Job Description

FSY Canada Coordinator

Payment for FSY Coordinators is $1,498.15 CAD for a weeklong contract.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with local campus personnel, session directors, staff, and all participants in a professional manner to facilitate on-site coordination of assigned FSY sessions, as directed by a program administrator.
  • With minimal supervision by a program administrator, work with a co-coordinator to effectively manage a leadership team to supervise staff and participants.
  • Willingly and responsibly work to promote the physical safety and spiritual well-being of each participant attending FSY.
  • Safely engage with and be present with, and responsible for, groups of youth throughout the day and night while continuing to perform other job responsibilities.
  • Participate in all required trainings. These include orientation in January or February and training in March. Both trainings may have a virtual option. Training also includes online training and a mandatory in-person training in Calgary AB (tentative dates are July 8–15, 2023).
  • Assist in the training and development of assistant coordinators, health coordinators, and counselors to maximize their ability to work effectively with participants, as directed by program administrators, specifically: demonstrating proficient formal and informal teaching techniques and creating a learning atmosphere that will help all recognize and learn by the Spirit.
  • Guide staff in appropriate associations with FSY program participants.
  • Give clear direction and provide corrective feedback to counselors regarding their responsibilities while working with youth participants.
  • Help all youth build faith in Jesus Christ and in His Restored Gospel, help create a learning atmosphere that will help all recognize and learn by the Spirit, and seek to ensure that all have a positive and uplifting experience.
  • As needed, help program administrators handle youth disciplinary situations and critical incidents with sensitivity and in accordance with FSY policy and the law.
  • Organize and execute various duties and activities of the FSY program as assigned (including, but not limited to holding and leading effective meetings, facilitating games night, musical program, and variety show, etc.) for the benefit of youth participants.
  • Understand, follow, and (where applicable) enforce FSY policies addressing general conduct, youth protection, sexual misconduct, and standards of communication.

Qualifications:

  • Be a young single adult (YSA) member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Be a minimum of 21 years old by May 15th of the summer for which you are applying to work.
  • Accept as a condition of employment compliance with the Church Educational System (CES) Honor Code and other standards of employment, including the holding of, and being worthy to hold, a temple recommend. This includes authorizing all questions to, discussions with, and disclosures by, the prospective employee’s ecclesiastical leaders that pertain to the CES Ecclesiastical Clearance Office clearance process for new hires, as the process is updated from time to time.
  • Have a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and of His Restored Gospel and be willing to share it through words and actions.
  • Be fully supportive of the doctrine, practices, and leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Have previous FSY employment experience OR equivalent leadership experience supervising peers and/or youth.
  • Be willing and able to abide by the FSY employee conduct, communication, and dress and appearance standards, and all other FSY policies.
  • Be able to walk for extended periods of time during the day, be energized and actively engaged with the youth, perform all duties, and participate in physical activities, including, but not limited to: playing games, walking up and down stairs, running, jumping, and dancing.
  • Be able to safely engage with and be responsible for staff and participants throughout the day and night, and perform duties effectively in stressful situations.
  • Be able to make procedural decisions, exercising good judgement, reliability, and accountability.
  • Be able to organize resources and establish priorities.
  • Exemplify strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Pass required background check for this position.
  • Must be authorized to work lawfully in Canada for EFY-Canada Foundation. *Please note that the employer will not provide visa sponsorship for this position in Canada.
  • Complete all mandatory online training and in-person training in Calgary AB.
  • Be willing to travel to various FSY locations as needed. Travel to sessions is assigned, arranged, and paid for by FSY.

Preferred:

  • Returned Missionary (male applicants)
  • Previous FSY coordinator, assistant coordinator or health coordinator experience.
  • Able to work a minimum of 4 weeks in the summer during peak staffing needs, as determined by FSY (see FSY employment website for updates).

  • Willingly and responsibly work to promote the physical safety and spiritual well-being of each participant attending FSY.
  • Safely engage with and be present with, and responsible for, groups of youth throughout the day and night while continuing to perform other job responsibilities.
  • Participate in all required trainings. These include Spring Leadership Training Tentatively scheduled in April. This training may have a virtual option. Training also includes online training and mandatory in-person training in Calgary, AB tentative dates are July 8–15, 2023.

Payment for FSY Health Coordinators is $1,225.76 CAD for a weeklong contract.

Responsibilities:

  • Help all youth build faith in Jesus Christ and in His Restored Gospel, help create a learning atmosphere that will help all recognize and learn by the Spirit, and seek to ensure that all have a positive and uplifting experience.
  • Participate in all required trainings. These include orientation in January or February and training in March. Both trainings may have a virtual option. Training also includes online training and mandatory in-person training in Calgary AB (tentative dates are July 12–15, 2023).
  • Willingly and responsibly work to promote the physical safety and spiritual well-being of each participant attending FSY; specifically responding to and assisting participants with minor health needs in an empathetic and respectful manner (this position may include AM and PM hours in rotating shifts).
  • Safely engage with and be present with, and responsible for, groups of youth throughout the day and night while continuing to perform other job responsibilities.
  • Work directly with, take direction from, and report to FSY administrative staff and coordinators in working with youth participants.
  • Able to use education, experience, and sound reasoning to respond to requests and questions related to health and wellness, following best practices and FSY policies for managing health concerns and emergencies (including Covid-19 protocols).
  • Supervise, train, and assist counselors and staff in maintaining a safe and healthy environment during the FSY event.
  • Help staff and participants know where and when to seek medical assistance, if necessary, and assist them in this process.
  • In the event of a health emergency, quickly assess the situation, notify the program administrator, and work with medical staff to assist participants and staff.
  • Assist with organizing and executing various duties and activities of the FSY program as assigned (including, but not limited to: holding and leading effective meetings and facilitating games night, musical program, variety show, etc.) for the benefit of youth participants.

  • Be able to safely engage with and be responsible for staff and participants throughout the day and night, and perform duties effectively in stressful situations.
