Job Description
Grounds Event Assistant
The Grounds Event Assistant supports outdoor campus events and reports directly to the Grounds Event Supervisor. This position involves working alongside students and other BYU staff employees.
This is not a standard 8-to-5 job; work hours vary based on campus events, including football games and snow removal. The position follows a seasonal schedule, with nine months of active work and three months of reduced hours, depending on snowfall. The Grounds Event Assistant will also assist with the storage and use of Grounds Events’ equipment, participate in snow removal as needed, and provide seasonal support to the Grounds Greenhouse. If the Grounds Event Supervisor is unavailable, the employee may be asked to attend meetings with campus shops, schools, and departments to gather information about major events, coordinate schedules, and report back to their supervisor.

What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Ability to work in a professional manner with the public and other departments for special events
- Efficient instructional training and communication skills
- Proven organizational experience
- Effective time management
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs on a daily basis
- Experience with event support
- A medical exam is required before employment to ensure the selected applicant can perform the necessary tasks.
- Physical effort is moderate represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials such as ice melt daily, or use of medium weight hand tools.
- Job requires climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.
- Job include snow shoveling during snowstorms for extended periods of time 3-18 hours.
- The Environment of the job requires frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters..
- The hazards of the job are moderate with existing or potential hazards
- Job requires pulling a trailer behind a vehicle seasonally for 1-2 hours at a time.
Preferred
- Experience Design Management
- Knowledge of BYU campus
- Experience driving vehicle pulling a trailer
- Proficient in operation of various small engines and machines, including snowplows and tractors
- 3 years’ experience with event support

Actual compensation based on education and experience
