Professional Editor, BYU Faculty Publishing Services
BYU’s Faculty Publishing Services (FPS) is helping faculty produce world-class research, and now you can be a part of it! As a professional editor, you will play a key role in ensuring high-quality editing and publishing for BYU faculty. How will you do this? By providing in-depth editing on a variety of academic manuscripts, ensuring they meet the highest editorial standards. You’ll also mentor and guide student interns, offering hands-on training and constructive feedback to help them grow their editing skills. What you’ll do in this position:
Provide copyediting and substantive editing for academic manuscripts authored by BYU faculty, ensuring they meet high editorial and academic standards.
Fact-check and format manuscripts according to specified style guides (e.g., Chicago, APA, journal-specific).
Provide mentorship and feedback to student editors, helping them improve their editing skills.
Proofread and prepare academic manuscripts for publication, ensuring accuracy and adherence to editorial guidelines.
Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of projects.
Communicate with faculty members and clients to clarify project requirements and address questions as needed.
Participate in team meetings and training sessions to share feedback and improve team workflows.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
Bachelor’s degree in editing, publishing, or related field OR four years of professional experience in editing or publishing OR equivalent combination of education and related work experience
Preferred
Experience with both copy editing and substantive editing
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, especially using Track Changes
Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and APA Style
Experience in academic publishing or a similar field
Experience mentoring or training others in editorial tasks
