Required Degree:
Master’s in education or related field plus bachelor's degree or post-baccalaureate program that resulted in a teaching license/certificate.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience:
Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years full-time teaching experience, preference given for teaching grades K-6 in public schools.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in situations that require diplomacy and sensitivity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Experience as a mentor/cooperating teacher to teacher candidates (e.g., practicum experiences, student teachers, interns)
- Experience in university public school partnerships or professional development schools
- Familiarity with the BYU-Public School Partnership and Jordan School District
- Evidence of working with diverse student populations
- Experience in clinical supervision of teacher candidates and/or in-service teachers
- Familiarity with the Utah Effective Teaching Standards
- University teaching experience
Duties/Expectations:
The Elementary Education program at Brigham Young University is part of a university/public school partnership* that has spanned over 40 years and is integral to our teacher preparation program. This adjunct faculty member would act as liaison between an assigned public school partnership district (Jordan) and the university elementary education program. They also teach courses, coordinate practicum and student teaching placements, and oversee the clinical supervision of teacher candidates. This position includes, but is not limited to, the following expectations:
Teaching
Teach undergraduate courses in the Elementary Education program, including, but not limited to:
- ELED 299R: Classroom Management and Practicum 1
- ELED 399R: Classroom Management and Practicum 2
Program Administration
- Promote and support the BYU Public School Partnership and cultivate strong relationships with district partners and university faculty peers
- Co-select, direct, support, train and supervise Clinical Faculty Associates
- Oversee the administration of performance-based assessments for teacher candidates in collaboration with other university faculty
- Other duties as assigned
Field-Based Assignments
- Organize and facilitate high-quality placements for teacher-candidates
- Oversee university courses completed in clinical settings, which may include but is not limited to:
- El Ed 400: Elementary Student Teaching
- El Ed 496: Academic Internship
- Organize and conduct practical seminars for teacher candidates during student teaching and internship)
- Provide support and remediation for students not meeting transition-related standards
