Website Administrator
The College of Humanities at Brigham Young University is seeking a Website Administrator to build, maintain, and troubleshoot website infrastructure that supports faculty, staff, and external audiences. This position oversees website development, provides technical support, and manages a team of student developers. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with the System Administrator and Director of the Office of Digital Humanities.

Job Description
Website Administrator
The College of Humanities at Brigham Young University is seeking a Website Administrator to build, maintain, and troubleshoot website infrastructure that supports faculty, staff, and external audiences. This position oversees website development, provides technical support, and manages a team of student developers. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with the System Administrator and Director of the Office of Digital Humanities.
What You’ll Do In This Position:
- Build and maintain website infrastructure in collaboration with the College of Humanities System Administrator.
- Support the design, development, and maintenance of auxiliary websites within the College of Humanities.
- Manage WordPress environments, including standalone and multisite setups.
- Stay current on WordPress plugin compatibility and availability.
- Consult with faculty and other clients to ensure their website needs are met.
- Provide technical support for web hosting.
- Manage and supervise a team of student web developers, including recruitment and training.
- Allocate and manage server resources, databases, and website security.
- Select and recommend web technologies for acquisition and implementation.
- Oversee system updates and escalate major website proposals for approval.
What qualifies you for this role:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Information Technology, or a related technical field, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- At least two years of experience in web server administration and website management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using WordPress, including implementation of plugins and themes.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and familiarity with PHP.
- Comfort working in Linux shell environments (bash, csh, zsh, etc.).
- Ability to create website domains, databases, and installations.
- Team leadership and supervisory experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Information Technology, or Computational Linguistics.
- Four years of web administration and web server experience.
- PHP development experience.
- Web administrator professional certification or similar.
- Experience creating and administering MySQL or other SQL-based databases.
- Background in database design and data modeling.
- Experience in a humanities-related field (e.g., languages, literature, linguistics, philosophy, history, etc.).
- Linux server administration experience, including command-line tools.
- Apache web server administration experience, including website configuration.
