Farm Mission: Bright Spot Farm provides hands-on work, experience, and training to high school students. Operating a working farm and nursery/garden center, we train youth and sell seasonal ornamental plants, vegetable and herb starts, and fresh vegetables. Our objective is to provide a space for healing and empowerment, where young people can steward the land and deepen their connection with nature. We distribute approximately 70% of our harvests to food-insecure families in New Castle County.
Job Description: The Seasonal Farm Assistant will report to the Farm Manager and Program Director. The Seasonal Farm assistant will assist with all farm tasks related to food production and distribution. This position involves general field work, greenhouse seeding, preparing and packing produce for distribution, general farm maintenance, and rotating schedules at farmer’s markets and weekend watering. The ideal candidate has an interest in small-scale vegetable production, food systems, food insecurity, and community outreach.
Desired Qualifications & Abilities:
- Ability to receive and give regular feedback
- Genuine curiosity and interest in farming
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to lift 40 lbs repeatedly
- Experience with or willingness to use power tools and machinery
- Farming experience preferred
- Must pass a State of Delaware background check
Compensation: $20 per hour, 20-25 hours per week, May to October
