Summary

An Assistant Child Care Director primarily supports the Child Care Director in overseeing the daily operations of a childcare facility, including supervising staff, implementing curriculum, ensuring children's safety and well-being, and assisting with administrative tasks, all while adhering to licensing regulations and maintaining a positive learning environment for children. Under the direction of the Child Care Director, the Assistant Director collaborates with staff to ensure that curriculum and classroom activities are properly delivered, and that the needs of the children and the goals of the center are met appropriately.

Duties

Staff Supervision:
  • Monitoring staff performance and providing feedback.
  • Assume duties of Center Director and Teachers as needed during their absence.

Curriculum Implementation:
  • Support the Director in developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Observe classroom activities to ensure alignment with curriculum goals.
  • Provide guidance to teachers on lesson planning and activity implementation.

Child Development and Safety:
  • Monitor children's behavior and address any concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with child safety regulations and procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies and accidents appropriately.
  • Observe children's developmental progress and document observations.
  • Ensure staff-to-child ratios in all classrooms are met.

Administrative Tasks:
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation regarding children and staff.
  • Assist with preparing staff weekly schedule
  • Assist with parent communications, including scheduling conferences and providing updates.
  • Manage and oversee facility supplies and food ordering
  • Support the Director with budget management and reporting.
  • Offer support in interviewing/hiring staff and managing staff according to each individual job description
  • Assist the director in managing, conducting, and documenting staff meetings.
  • Assist the director in supervising all daily and weekly tasks including reviewing staff and children?s schedules, observing classroom management, and overseeing curriculum implementation.
  • Greet parents and visitors, answer questions, arrange meetings, lead tours, and perform other daily customer service tasks.
  • Assist in planning and implementing family engagement activities.
  • Assist and serve as acting director when required, managing staff, and overseeing programs activities.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure adherence to quality standards in accordance with Center guidelines and state and local requirements; implement improvements where needed.
  • Maintain communication with families and community through appropriate outreach activities.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Must complete 20 hours of continuing staff development each year
  • Any other duties assigned.

Facility Management:
  • Contribute to the overall cleanliness and organization of the child care facility.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements for the facility.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years' staff supervisory experience in early childhood setting
  • 3 -5 years teaching experience as well as experience working in a childcare setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to child safety and development.
  • High energy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification or willing to complete within the 6 months of hiring.
  • Must clear full background check.
  • Must pass health screening.
