After Brightline Florida completed the first passenger rail system connecting Miami and Orlando, Brightline West was formed to connect Las Vegas and Southern California through the nation’s first true high-speed, electric passenger rail system. Reaching speeds of more than 186 miles per hour, this 218-mile high-speed rail service will take passengers from Las Vegas to the Greater Los Angeles area twice as fast as the normal drive time.

SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced Lead Structures Representative to join our Brightline West team. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and integrity of various structural public works projects, including reviewing, and approving design plans, monitoring the progression of construction projects, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and liaising with engineers, contractors, and local agencies. The representative also plays a pivotal role in problem-solving and decision-making related to structural challenges and disputes. This position requires deep knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction management, and familiarity with Cal-OSHA practices and procedures, knowledge of Greenbook construction practices, and a thorough understanding of Caltrans field methods, practices, and construction office procedures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary structures field representative responsible for ensuring compliance with the construction contract and design plans for all highway structures in accordance with Caltrans requirements.

Ability to review submittals including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, QA plans submitted by the contractor.

Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work including CAL/OSHA and SWPPP.

Inspects construction progress which may include ensuring procedures and materials comply with Caltrans and project specifications; observes work in progress to assure conformance with requirements and acceptable workmanship.

Prepare reports, opinions, and recommendations concerning the Caltrans highway structures.

Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes and technical adequacy of design and construction in accordance with Caltrans standards.
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- A minimum of 6 (six) years of bridge and/or structural construction inspection as related to major public works projects.
- A minimum of 10 years experience on major public works projects.
- Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
- A thorough understanding of Cal-OSHA practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Caltrans and Greenbook construction practices and the physical characteristics and properties of various bridge construction materials including concrete.
- Experience in the following areas: foundations, pile driving and CIDH piles, concrete prestressing, bridge deck construction, cast-in-place wall construction, falsework, and shoring.
- Thorough understanding of Caltrans field methods, practices, and construction office procedures.
Brightline West offers a competitive salary and robust benefits package for full-time positions. The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $180,000. Actual salaries will vary based on experience, education, budget, project, and location.
