What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance and Repair Technician position at Brighton Allston Congregational Church?
Brighton Allston Congregational Church in Brighton Center is seeking a Maintenance and Repair Technician for building repair and maintenance. We offer $29.51 per hour for 20 hours per week, plus PTO, sick time, and access to a flexible spending account for medical expenses.
Our church and food pantry actively welcome 2SLGBTQIA members, with a strong commitment to racial and environmental justice. Through our ministries, we provide food relief to thousands in Allston-Brighton. We have two buildings, the parsonage and the main church building, both of which turned 100 years old in 2022.
We seek a Maintenance and Repair Technician to:
- Conduct basic maintenance and repair of church buildings, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general handiwork;
- Maintain and repair our commercial fridges and freezers;
- Manage heating, plumbing, and electrical systems;
- Identify areas where we can improve the safety, function, appearance, and sustainability of our buildings;
- Inventory management;
- Work with the Office Administrator to schedule contractors when appropriate;
- Other tasks as assigned.
Schedule:
Set hours to be determined between Monday and Friday, 9am-5pm. Occasional weekend or evening hours required for building emergencies or urgent repairs.
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years of handyperson experience, including: carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general repairs;
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively;
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds;
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in building maintenance and facilities management;
- Experience seeking bids from and hiring contractors
