Job Summary
Position is the direct assistant to the optometrist. Being as such, applicant should be a reliable professional who is compassionate and engaging. Excellent verbal communication and attention to detail are a must. Applicant must be flexible and open to change. Previous assistant experience and experience with electronic medical records preferred.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Verifying patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
- Preparing patients for examination by performing preliminary testing; OCT scans, visual fields, topography, tonometry, fundus photos, etc.
- Securing patient information and maintaining patient confidence by completing medical records, diagnostic coding, procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
- Counseling patients by transmitting optometrist's orders; answering patient questions
- Scheduling co-managed appointments with ophthalmology practice; verifying times with patients, preparing notes/forms.
- Maintaining safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures.
- Keeping supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Keeping equipment operating by following operating instructions; trouble shooting breakdowns; performing preventative maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
- Enhancing practice reputation by accepting ownership of accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Qualifications and Skills
Paraoptometric certification is preferred but not required.
