Job Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting / Controller to lead our accounting team in a fast-growing, defense-focused organization. With a nationwide and international presence, as well as private investors, this role is essential to overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and providing strategic accounting guidance to drive growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of 5-10 accountants, fostering a culture of improvement and excellence.
- Cost Accounting: Oversee cost accounting systems to track project costs, profitability, and company-wide financial performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as government contracting requirements (FAR, CAS).
- Audit Coordination: Manage internal and external audits, ensuring timely completion and regulatory compliance.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial statements and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- Tax Coordination: Oversee external tax preparation and reporting in collaboration with an outside firm.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow to ensure operational liquidity and project support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred).
- 7 years of progressive financial management experience, ideally in government contracting.
- Deep knowledge of government regulations, GAAP, and cost accounting standards.
- Strong analytical skills and expertise in financial modeling.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder interaction skills.
- Experience with mergers, acquisitions, and private equity.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; experience in ERP implementation is a plus.
