Job Description
Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia's 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. Brightpoint Community College is seeking multiple qualified candidates for a nine-month full-time Information Technology (IT) faculty position. This position will include, teaching a full range of information technology courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online (synchronous or asynchronous) formats. Full-time responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring). Teaching assignments will require the availability to teach day, evening, and online classes at either campus (Midlothian or Chester). The successful candidates will actively participate in course / program development, assessment, advising students, and serving on division and college committees. IT faculty are also expected to work with local employers and government officials to ensure students obtain the skills needed to enter the IT workforce.
Candidate should be able to teach Information Technology courses ranging from introductory to more advanced topics such as : information technology essentials, database management, networking, computer programming, cybersecurity, cloud computing, operating systems, information systems, PC hardware and troubleshooting, and network security.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's / Required Qualifications
Master's degree in an IT related field with a minimum of 18 graduate-level credits. College level teaching experience and / or relevant work experience. Demonstrated ability to effectively use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral / written communication skills. Willingness to adopt and teach new and emerging technologies and commitment to meeting the needs of and providing instruction to diverse populations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check.
Additional Considerations
Significant graduate coursework in math, engineering, or information technology. Prior teaching experience in higher education particularly community college teaching experience. Demonstrated experience in curriculum and course development.
