Job Description
Brightspeed is searching for an Operations Engineer II to join our team! We are seeking a skilled Engineer II to manage and perform proactive maintenance on network elements for voice, video, and data networks. In this role, you will develop plans to augment capacity relief as needed and conduct engineering work, including applied research, development, and design of new projects. This includes the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of both physical and logical equipment and devices.
As a Operations Engineer II, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and executing proactive maintenance tasks on network elements for voice, video, and data
- Developing and implementing plans for capacity augmentation as necessary
- Performing engineering and applied research to design and evaluate new projects
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues across IP, ATM, Ethernet, and TCP/IP networks, focusing on OSI Layers 1-3
- Configuring network equipment using CLI/TL1 commands and GUIs
- Analyzing and isolating problems at both the physical and logical layers
- Maintaining a thorough understanding of circuit and packet switching, the OSI reference model, frame relay, and ATM switching
- Communicating effectively with customers and team members to ensure a high level of service
- Working independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating flexibility and resourcefulness in challenging situations
Qualifications
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience in data network operations, data communications networking, systems programming, or related fields demonstrating a broad understanding of information systems functions
- Relevant telecommunications experience, particularly with HSI, data, and IPTV network elements
- Strong project management skills
- Proficiency in troubleshooting network issues
- Solid understanding of Ethernet switches, routers, and their connectivity
- Excellent logical and analytical troubleshooting skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Good organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations
BONUS POINTS FOR:
- Experience with vendor equipment such as ALU, Cisco, Juniper, Fujitsu, Calix, Adtran, Tellabs, or Ciena platforms
- Knowledge of routing protocols including ISIS, OSPF, and BGP
