About Us
Founded in 2023, Paterson Prep Charter School is a free public charter school currently serving over 375 students in grades K-2 and 5-6. As a growing school, we plan to expand by adding one grade each year to both our elementary and middle school programs until we reach full enrollment for grades K-8. Next year, we will serve grades K-3 and 5-7.

Position Overview
As the art teacher, you will help shape the minds of young artists through the use of various mediums while fostering a culture of creativity, integrity, and character development. In this role, you will provide students, grades K-3 and 5-8, with the opportunity to learn new artistic techniques, receive constructive feedback and experience hands-on learning through your high-quality instruction that meets the diverse needs of students, and supports a joyful and structured learning environment.
Core Competencies & Responsibilities
- Create and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards incorporating various art forms, techniques and media. This means leading by example and demonstrating the artistic techniques being taught, teaching the process and providing the materials so that students are able to demonstrate their understanding.
- Evaluate and assess students understanding by providing constructive feedback and tracking students progress
- Introduce students to the history of art, different artistic styles and different forms of art to foster appreciation
- Promote critical thinking and problem solving while creating different art pieces
- Foster productive relationships with colleagues, parents, and the community while engaging in ongoing collaborative professional development, reflecting on student achievement, and efficiently managing time for impactful teaching and learning
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Certifications
Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited institution
Excellent spoken and written communication skills
Possession of current New Jersey Teacher of Arts Certificate (required)
Relevant urban, teaching experience with demonstrated student results (preferred)
