Brilla Public Charter Schools is a network of K-8th grade schools that currently serves nearly 1,800 students from Mott Haven, University Heights, and other neighborhoods in the Bronx. The network is growing from its current four elementary and two middle schools to five elementary and five middle schools educating some 4,000 students in the Bronx and Paterson, NJ.

Position Overview
We are seeking a Paraprofessional to support classroom teachers and provide instructional and administrative assistance in our elementary school. The Paraprofessional will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and other school leaders to ensure that all students receive the support and resources they need to be successful.
This position requires an enthusiastic, flexible, solutions-oriented, organized, and creative educator prepared to challenge the educational status quo. Brilla teachers must have a deep passion for student-engaged learning and a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities, while inspiring outstanding achievement in children in a joyful and collaborative work environment.
Core Competencies & Responsibilities
- Primary Function: To assist the teacher maintain an orderly, safe, and educational atmosphere in the classroom by supporting and supervising students
- Provides intensive individualized support services directed toward the development and/or enhancement of skills necessary for emotional, cognitive, behavioral, language, and interpersonal growth of the student
- Assist with classroom management, including behavior support and classroom organization.
- Accurately completes all required documentation and data collection
- Works with an individual student to reinforce learning of material or skills as described in the IEP/treatment plan
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of the individual student, his/her needs, interests, and abilities
- Helps the student master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher and assists the student throughout the school environment as necessary
- Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines as needed
- Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about the individual student
- Collaborate with other Paraprofessionals and school leaders to support the school's mission and goals.
- Responsible to: Director of Special Services, Building Administration, and Classroom Teacher
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Sixty (60) college credits; or Teacher Certification and experience; or receive passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment
- Special Education credential and experience (highly desirable).
- Spanish language proficiency (preferred).
