What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant position at Brindle McCormack & Williams P.C.?
Brindle McCormack & Williams, P.C. is looking for a part-time legal assistant in downtown Portland, Oregon. Prior paralegal or litigation experience is preferred but not required. Our firm specializes in criminal defense law, family law, civil litigation, estate planning, and immigration. This position offers a great opportunity for an introduction to working in the legal field, and we are looking for a new team member who is eager to learn. The applicant will be primarily assisting in family law and criminal matters and will work closely with the attorneys.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining client files.
- Support attorneys in preparing court documents and draft templates of pleadings, correspondence, contracts, and briefs as well as tracking case developments.
- File documents electronically and physically with the court.
- Organize, review, and redact extensive discovery.
- Assist attorneys with the general organization of physical and electronic case files.
- Manage calendars, schedule client meetings and hearings, and ensure adherence to case deadlines.
- Conduct legal research, information gathering, and writing projects.
- Demonstrate exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills with clients and associated parties.
- Coordinate service of pleadings.
Skills:
- Ideally 1-3 years of experience in law firms supporting attorneys.
- Flexibility – a successful candidate in this role will be able to adapt to this team’s work style to support the team’s needs and will be able to prioritize important tasks with competing deadlines.
- Administrative experience with docketing, eFiling, document production, and file management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Punctuality, reliability, and the ability to adhere to firm and case deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to self-initiate.
