Qualifications /Requirements:
• California Teaching Credential with appropriate English-learner authorization
• Belief that children construct knowledge by reflecting on experiences
Job Goal: To create a developmentally appropriate elementary experience; to provide a physically and emotionally safe classroom that fosters learning and personal growth; to provide a stimulating, child-centered environment in which children can explore and learn; to offer educational materials that are self correcting in order that children can learn through discovery; to provide each child with instruction that is geared to their ability and interests and in compliance with the state standards; to foster an environment where children maintain their natural joy of learning.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, and physical education to pupils in a classroom, incorporating the Common Core State Standards through an integrated instructional approach.
2. Utilizes the program of Lifeskills with the children and models respect for each other and for students so that students will develop this Lifeskills as they mature.
3. Develops lesson plans using instructional materials and effective strategies such as differentiation to meet the learning needs of a diverse student group.
4. Establishes and maintains standards of behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
5. Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
6. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program.
7. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
8. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
9. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
10. Participates cooperatively with the principal in the evaluation process.
11. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
12. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
13. Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
14. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
15. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
Terms of Employment:
Ten month year. Salary determined by bargaining agreement. This is a full-day instructional program.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of and terms of contract with the Brisbane Elementary Teachers Association.
