General Description:
The Master position has the legal responsibility and accountability for safe operation of company owned tugboat, and will direct the day-to-day operations as well as coordinate the onboard activities of the boat crew such as operating engines, steering and maintaining and repairing the ship's equipment.

- Ensure safe and efficient navigation of the vessel.
- Utilizing navigation devices.
- Responsible for the safe operation of the vessel
- Maintain a safe working environment throughout vessel operations.
- Ensure crew members are provided with information to adhere to Maritime Regulations.
- Direct crew in recordkeeping and performing regular safety drills.
- Supervise crewmembers in their onboard duties.
- Open communication with company representatives and on-site supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise crewmembers in their onboard duties.
Work Environment:

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and severe outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection and the use of safety eyewear is required in most working situations.

- MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
- HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
- VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
- LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 70 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 70 pounds for 20 feet.

Requirements:Required Qualifications:
- USCG 200 Ton Master Near Coastal/Towing Endorsement is required.
- Radar Unlimited course is required.
- Experience in operating vessel in Western Alaska is required.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required.
- CPR First Aid Certification is required.
- FCC Radio Operator's License is required.
- Valid Driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school Diploma or GED is preferred.
- ARPA is preferred.
