POSITION TITLE: Director of Academic Innovation and Professional Development
DEPARTMENT: Academic Innovation and Professional Development
PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River, MA
REPORTS TO: Chief of Staff and Strategy Development
POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time, non-unit position with benefits, some nights and weekends required.
SALARY: $102,118.32 - $107,228.06
This position reports to the Chief Strategy Officer and collaborates closely with academic deans and leadership, our online learning department, and human resources in the development and management of the following functions:
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for providing leadership and support for the professional development needs of the college's faculty and staff based on the needs of the strategic plan and the changing needs of the student population. This position will support full- and part-time faculty to advance teaching and learning and promote student learning and success. It will also support enriching professional staff skills that enhance the total student experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Leadership and Institutional Effectiveness
- Lead the college's Center for Teaching and Learning with its program development, planning, review, implementation, and institutional effectiveness efforts.
- Facilitate and manage a multi-disciplined collegewide group dedicated to identifying the ongoing Professional Development needs of our institution.
- Ensuring institutional effectiveness through continuous evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning programs.
- Managing the alignment of program outcomes with institutional goals.
- Provide supervision to the staff in the Lash Center for Teaching and Learning.
Collaboration and Faculty Development
- Collaborate with the Director of Assessment to involve faculty and staff from various disciplines, promoting the enhancement of student learning and success outcomes by utilizing program review and assessment data.
- Work in conjunction with Academic Affairs staff to foster the creation of faculty learning communities and other high-impact practices that enhance student success.
- Develop and implement an assessment plan that defines specific outcomes and measures the impact of professional development efforts.
- Fostering faculty learning communities and other high-impact practices that promote student success..
- Facilitate instruction per academic credentials.
- Advance existing skill sets through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and workshops and obtaining certifications that are relevant and align with recognized standards for doing this work.
Assessment and Strategic Planning
- Evaluate emerging learning technologies as they apply to instruction, and work with both Online Learning and Academic Affairs to recommend and promote best practices for teaching and learning to faculty across various instructional modalities.
- Utilizing assessment data to drive decisions that improve student learning and program effectiveness.
- Developing and implementing comprehensive assessment plans to measure the impact of professional development efforts.
- Executing strategic initiatives associated with professional development and organizational goals.
Cultural Competency and Staff Excellence
- Provide opportunities to encourage knowledge of, respect for, and development of culturally responsive skills to engage with those of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Supporting staff development to maintain excellence in teaching, leadership, and professional practices.
Resource Management and Fundraising.
- Developing and maintaining a virtual resource library of best practices in teaching, learning, leadership, and curricular assessment.
- Identifying content experts and fostering partnerships to promote peer collaboration and sharing of resources.
- Collaborating with the Grants Development Department to secure external funding for the Center's activities.
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years experience in developing and managing professional development programs.
- Knowledge of best practices and scholarship related to effective teaching and pedagogy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in a related field.
- Prior supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
- Prior experience working at a multi-campus community college.
- Experience managing and overseeing budgets and asset allocation.
- Demonstrated experience using data to inform program development and assessment.
