What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety and Environmental Systems Director position at Bristol Group, LLC?
The Safety and Environmental Systems Director position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and execution of the company’s Safety and Environmental regulatory programs, demonstrating a commitment to our employees and stewardship for the community. Success includes implementation of safety practices that enable safe job performance and supports the welfare of all company employees, and includes oversight to ensure company compliance with all regulatory agency environmental requirements.This person works closely with all leaders within Bristol Group to ensure successful implementation of necessary and effective programs. This is accomplished through:
Leadership
- Create foundational trust based on the highest integrity and the dignity of every person
- Advocate for principles of a safe and environmentally-responsible work culture
- Ensure that all employees are provided with proper safety systems, tools, PPE, etc.
- Participate in establishing safety goals and objectives
- Assist company leaders to develop and promote safety awareness and communication throughout their functional areas
- Communicate safety and environmental topics and issues broadly across the company
- Be expert in knowledge and understanding for faultless compliance with environmental permits
Creation / Development/ Maintenance
- Develop and maintain safety improvement action plans and key performance indicators (KPI’s)
- Coordinate safety training content and administer regular safety training
- Ensure consistent application of safety policies across the company
- Deliver required reporting and documentation to state and federal regulatory agencies
- Lead the process to investigate safety incidents and achieve root cause resolution
- Lead the process to investigate environmental excursions/violations and achieve root cause resolution
- Ensure that site Emergency Response Procedures are effective and functional
- Conduct safety and environmental audits to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities, and provide support to achieve improvements
- Implement continuous improvement processes for safety performance and environmental stewardship throughout the company
Maintain Legal and Company Compliance
- Ensure that the company is compliant with all OSHA regulations and regulatory agency environmental requirements
- Serve as management representative for OSHA and all federal and state environmental regulatory agencies
- Develop and maintain good relationships with OSHA people and regulatory agency people
- Develop and approve of applicable policies and procedures required for compliance
- Enforce safety and environmental compliance for all construction projects
- Review and approve safety and environmental implications of process modifications or capital expenditures
- Ensure record keeping and reporting are timely and accurate
Success of the position is measured by:
- Safety performance statistics (LTIR/EMR)
- Implementation of safety systems
- Implementation of environmental systems
- Regulatory violations and/or fines
- Documented participation of all employees in safety and environmental training
To performthis job successfully the employee must have the following:
- An undying commitment to excellence in safety performance and regulatory compliance
- A Bachelor’s degree in safety or environmental processes
- 5 years of experience in the construction and/or manufacturing field(s)
- The abilityto operate a computer, computer networks, common softwareand communication devices
- Demonstrate a high levelof knowledge of safety management systems and environmental regulatory requirements
- The ability to communicate well,both receiving and disseminating information for clear understanding, for executives as well as construction and manufacturing employees
- The abilityto understand broad direction and then formulateand execute detailed complex plans to meet that direction
- The ability to make complex judgments in the interest of the company and employees
- Demonstrate and be considered a leader in company values
Dutiesmay also include otherrelated management and oversight activities as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.
