JOB SUMMARY :

Supervises the total nursing care activities in the facility during each tour of duty. Delegates

responsibility to nursing personnel for direct nursing care of residents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Effectively oversees the delivery of resident care through the proper administration of

staffing and supplies and materials.

  • Ensures proper staffing of all units for the safe and effective delivery of resident care.
  • Adjusts staffing levels by reducing staff or calling in additional staff as resident care

needs dictate within the prescribed standards of the facility.

  • Ensures that all Local, State, and Federal regulations are adhered to including policies
  • and procedures of Ingraham Manor.

  • Uses initiative and judgment in problem solving abilities regarding residents, families,
  • and staff.

  • Supervises and directs the work of the nursing personnel during each tour of duty.
  • Provides direction in prioritizing the work flow of the nursing units.
  • Performs employee performance evaluations and makes appropriate recommendations
  • for personnel related action such as promotions, transfers, and reassignments.

  • Takes any disciplinary or corrective action in conjunction with the proper supervisor and
  • administrative personnel against employees in violation of facility policies and / or

    procedures.

  • Assists in the development of Ingraham Manor Nursing Policies and Procedures.
  • Monitors the progress of staff and provides on-going training and development as
  • necessary.

  • Monitors the use of stock drug supply and use of non-covered State drugs. Reports to
  • the Director of Nursing Services or designee and determines authorization or denial of

    use of these drugs.

    Ensures the recording and reporting of all matters related to resident care and facility

    operation.

  • Reports the facility status to the Director of Nursing Services or designee.
  • Assures notification of the resident's personal physician if there is a significant change in
  • the condition of the resident or notification of the Medical Director if the resident's

    personal physician does not respond promptly.

  • Ensures that all adverse changes detected in resident status and any immediate medical
  • care given are documented in the medical record of the resident.

  • Ensures communication between all shifts regarding resident activities through verbal
  • and written reports.

  • Ensures the proper documentation of nurses' notes regarding resident care to facility
  • and nursing standards.

    Effectively takes responsibility for self-development and maintenance of nursing skills.

  • Maintains own professional growth through keeping abreast of all Local, State, and
  • Federal regulatory developments as relates to resident care.

  • Stays abreast of trends within long term care through the review of material, articles,
  • and periodicals related to the field.

  • Attends all required meetings and inservice programs including but not limited to
  • supervisor meetings, department meetings, and staff meetings.

  • Attends annual mandatory inservice programs so as to be up-to-date.
  • Properly administers medications and other controlled substances.

  • Ensures the timely and safe passing of medications to residents through the charge
  • nurses on each unit.

  • Ensures that proper and accurate counts and records for all medications are
  • maintained on each tour of duty.

  • Destroys medications according to procedure with other nursing personnel, as needed.
  • When needed, will participate in a medication pass to residents according to facility
  • standards and the medication orders on record for each resident.

  • facility.

  • EDUCATIONAL / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

    Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

    STATE / FEDERAL MANDATED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

    Current State of Connecticut Registered Nursing License.

    INGRAHAM MANOR MANDATED EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

    General orientation at time of hire. Fire / Safety / Infection Control annually. Other programs as

    mandated by Ingraham Manor.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Must demonstrate patience and kindness toward residents and families. Must possess good

    observation and communication skills.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Must have the physical ability to perform all aspects of nursing care. Must be able to lift a

    minimum of 50lbs. Must be able to endure a prolonged period of extensive walking, standing,

    stooping, pushing, and pulling. Moderate periods of sitting, twisting, reaching, occasional

    crouching, crawling, kneeling and balancing. Vision, hearing, smell and tactile sensation

    corrected or accommodated to normal.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT :

    Regular contact with residents, body substances, and hazardous chemicals, 75 degree

    temperature, varied lighting, regular contact with soap and water, moderate noise level, use of

    various types of lifting devices.

    COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS :

    Ability to follow oral and written directions. Must be able to read and write.
