Hours : Monday-Friday 9a-6 : 30pm with flexibility to work all shifts if needed
Job Summary :
Assists the Manager of Patient Financial Services with performing a wide variety of duties that provide clerical and administrative support to assigned patient care area. Coordinates admitting information such as proper patient identification and demographics. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to : scheduling, greeting, and registering patients, data entry, verifying insurance eligibility using POS and Online eligibility resources, and enforcing HIPAA / EMTALA regulations. The Coordinator will be responsible for patient access education in the Emergency Department developing and maintaining training materials, and providing the CCC team with applicable payer updates.
Essential job functions and responsibilities :
Supervisory Responsibilities :
- Front line to ED Patient Access staff and ED Medical Secretaries to help problem solve issues
- Educate new front end employees on proper patient access functions
- Department educator for Patient Access Services
- Pull reports and process monthly staff audits
- Verify that patient status changes are processed correctly / notify Financial Counselor of any inconsistency and or changes
- Complete any registration status change requests that come from the Billing Office
- Complete the weekly schedule for the ED front desk staff
- Complete payroll
- Be responsible party for managing staffing needs i.e. sick calls
- Ensure that all signatures are obtained on all registration forms
- Responsible for maintaining training manuals
- Functions as ED department Rev Cycle Financial Analyst assisting coding vendor with completion of accounts for billing purposes.
- Assists Financial Counselor with any ED-related denials
Essential job functions and responsibilities :
Education / minimum requirements :
Bachelor's degree preferred. 3-5 years of hospital PAS experience required.
Some knowledge of medical terminology, pre-admission, and insurance preferred. Requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Understands the impact of patient registration on the financial revenue cycle. Requires knowledge of on-line computer systems and applications.
State / Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements :
None.
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements :
General orientation at time of hire. Fire / Safety / Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.
Special Requirements :
Superior customer service, telephone and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology, as well as typing and data entry skills. PC literacy preferred.
Physical Requirements :
Occasional sitting with extended bending, reaching, stooping, and walking / standing. Prolonged eye and hand use while operating computers. Occasional lifting, up to and in excess of fifty pounds. Ability to occasionally operate wheelchair and stretcher with patients. Occasionally assist in lifting / moving patients on and off stretchers, chairs, etc. Occasionally may have to assist in discharge of patients.
Cognitive Requirements :
Excellent clerical skills, good written and oral communication skills, literate in English. Good organizational skills with the ability to follow written and verbal directions with multiple steps.
