*Please note that this unit is only open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm*
Performs a wide variety of patient care tasks utilizing a Patient Focused Care model. Follows standardized procedures prescribed in a clinical pathway, including activities related to direct care, diagnostic testing, patient transport and documentation, as directed by RN.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provides direct care to patients under supervision/direction of the registered nurse
- Performs a wide variety of tasks using a patient centered model inclusive but not limited to:
- Assist with Bathing / Personal Hygiene
- Assists with ambulation, lifting and repositioning of patient
- Assists with feeding
- Assist with toileting
- Assists with vital signs
- Weights
- Safety checks
- Exhibits knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care
- Exhibits knowledge of principles of growth and development for patient groups served
- Demonstrates knowledge of providing care for specific population / age
- Demonstrates knowledge of computer skills
- Accurately updates patient health information in EHR.
- Exhibits ability to provide safe care to individual needs of the patient / family / caregiver in a patient centered environment
- Exhibits attributes of caring, empathy and promotion of positive work environment
- Embodies a strong work ethic
- Exemplifies communication in calm professional manner

Indirect Care Unit Activities
- Maintains a clean and safe unit environment.
- Stocks rooms/carts and maintains adequate inventories as set by par levels.
- Routinely rotates stock, adhering to procedure/policies regarding date items.
- Assists in putting supplies away in the storeroom.
- Answers telephone, relays messages accurately and in a timely manner.
- Transfers patients personal effects.
- Performs clerical functions as directed.
- Performs other departmental duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements:
- High School Graduate and completion of an accredited course of training in Medical Assisting and training in Phlebotomy.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
- RMA preferred
- Current BLS certification
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
- General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to take vital signs, knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Familiarity with medical equipment common to a medical practice.

Must be willing to be floated or reassigned to another department, unit, office, or location as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Bending, stooping, walking, sitting on a daily basis. Assists patients in and out of treatment rooms, in and out of chairs, on and off exam tables. Ability to spend over four hours/day at computer terminal/personal computer performing various duties.
Work Environment:
- Medical office setting with direct exposure to patients, body fluids, possible exposure to blood borne pathogens. High volume of telephone and personal contact with customers.
