Provides a wide variety of medical transcription services to the Pathology staff in order to expedite patient care services being provided as well as general record completion requirements. Responsible for producing accurate reports that meet quality standards as well as quantity standards.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Transcription functions
- Transcribes, from physician's notes/dictation, a wide variety of medical and related information pertaining to all aspects of inpatient and outpatient services provided at the hospital.
- Utilizes in-depth knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology to assure complete and accurate documentation and transcription of all health care services provided.
- As required, confers with pathologist to clarify any unclear terminology or other questionable information that has been dictated.
Performs General Clerical Functions
- Types manuals for Section Heads and Pathologists.
- Files slides for retrievals.
Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements:
Minimum High School diploma. For specifics see levels program for educational requirements. Courses in A & P/Medical Terminology. Previous hospital Medical Record Department medical transcription experience preferred.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
None
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.
Special Requirements:
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Typing speed of 55 wpm. Passing/acceptable medical typist test. Ability to operate designated work processing, dictation, transcription and other equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to endure long periods of sitting and use of a video display terminal. Excellent listening skills and excellent hearing.
Work Environment:
Normal office conditions.with minimal interruptions.
Cognitive Requirements:
Proper use of English grammar and punctuality. Ability to interpret various physicians dictations to produce high quality medical reports as required.
