Certified Tennessee Teacher - $110/day

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma
  2. Proficient with technology appropriate for the position
  3. Proficient in grammar skills
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Principal/Appropriate Supervisor

 

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Arrive at least ten minutes prior to the beginning of classes. Sign in at the school’s front office.
  1. Report to the main office and sign in upon arrival. Substitutes are required to wear BTCS identification badge while in schools. Sign out in the office at the end of the day.
  1. Receive instructions and materials that have been left; follow the lesson plans.
  1. Check for special activities or changes in the schedule.
  1. Check the correct procedures for:
  • Use of library and AV equipment and materials
  • Reporting/recording absences and tardiness
  • Clearing the building during fire drills or other emergencies
  • Lunch
  • Use of teacher rest areas
  1. Assume the duties of the regular teacher, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Additional supervision responsibilities
  • Collection of monies
  • Maintaining good housekeeping
  • Grading, if needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal
  1. Be very discreet in your comments concerning the school, its staff, students, and parents. Constructive criticism can be valuable to the schools and will be accepted in that light.  No doubt there will be times when, as a substitute teacher, you will feel the duty to “report.” However, the time to report is immediately; the place is at the school, and the principal should be the one to receive the report. 
  1. Notify the principal’s office immediately should an accident or severe problems occur.
  1. Confer with the regular classroom teachers concerning matters with which they may assist.
  1. Keep the atmosphere of the room as nearly normal as possible by following the regularly scheduled activities and teaching plans.
  1. Discipline:
  • Be calm and unemotional; be firm and fair. (Give a student a chance to explain his/her actions.) Explain the reasons for any penalty or punishment.
  • You may deny the student privileges for misbehaving.
  • Do not embarrass the student as a form of punishment. Try to handle the situation privately.
  • Do not use unusual forms of punishment.
  • Do not in any case use physical discipline of any type.
  • Report serious problems to the principal's office immediately.
  • Do not punish the group for the actions of one.  
  • If students are busy with some worthwhile materials, discipline problems seldom develop. The substitute should be pleasant but firm.
  1. Complete the day's assignment by:
  • Leaving the teacher's desk and room in order.
  • Leave a note explaining how the day went, any problems, etc. Include any assignment(s) not completed during the day and any absences during the day.
  • Returning equipment and materials to proper places.
  • Closing windows, adjusting shades/curtains and turning off lights.
  • Leaving keys, if any, in the office.
  • Reporting any occurrence that appears not to be normal.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

  1. Specific capacities and abilities may be required of an individual in order to learn or perform adequately a task or job duty.
  2. Intelligence: The ability to understand instructions and underlying principles. Ability to reason and make judgments.
  3. Verbal: Ability to understand meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
  4. Numerical: Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
  5. Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
  6. Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  7. Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
