What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Sheriff position at Bristol Virginia Sheriff's Office?
Will maintain law and order. Responsible for Court House and Court Room Security. Serve legal processes of the courts including subpoenas and summons. In state and out of state prisoner transports. Escort prisoners between courtrooms, prisons, and medical facilities. CITAC assigned deputies will accept transfers of custody from partnering local law enforcement agencies as guided by the involuntary civil commitment process to ensure those experiencing a behavioral health crisis will be assessed in a timely manner by a mental health professional in a therapeutic location. This deputy, will report daily to CITAC in Abingdon VA, and will be afforded a take home vehicle.
Must be 21 years of age due to the hazards of the job, i.e., guard inmates to prevent disturbances and escapes. Execute arrests, transport arrestee’s, and inmates.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must be able to meet all requirements to enter the Southwest Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy for basic school certification, or already possess a current law enforcement, Court Security, Civil Process or jail basic certification from a Virginia DCJS accredited law enforcement academy. Must reside within a reasonable distance so he/she can arrive at the Sheriff's Office from home using no longer, than 30 minutes travel time when notified to report to work.
All applicants must be able to satisfactorily, pass a thorough background investigation. Must be in a physical condition, which does not limit, in any way, activities necessary and/or inherent to law enforcement operations.
