JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent
ABOUT THE BRISTOL WARREN REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT:
The Bristol Warren Regional School District educates approximately 2800 children from the East Bay communities of Bristol and Warren. The district employs more than 300 professionals and features four elementary schools, one middle school, and a comprehensive high school. In the coming years, the school district will focus on the challenge of building a new high school, improving the student experience and academic achievement at all grade levels, expanding career pathways at the high school and strengthening internal and external communications.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools and in collaboration with other administrators, the Assistant Superintendent serves as the instructional leader for the Bristol-Warren Regional School District. The Assistant Superintendent provides leadership, direction, and supervision for building level administrators.
This position is charged with increasing the effectiveness of the operation, planning, development, and administration of all school-based programs supporting the district’s mission to ensure that all students are college and career-ready.
The assistant superintendent is responsible for ensuring the implementation of all applicable School Committee policies, providing regular support and guidance to school administrators, and creating trusting partnerships between central administration, district departments and each school.
It is important that the assistant superintendent aligns district resources with school needs, implements an instructional plan for the district that ensures effective teaching in every classroom, and creates conditions that ensure systemic improvement of practice over time in every classroom. The position requires strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and best practices for assessment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Hold or be eligible for the appropriate Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) certification as a District Level Superintendent of Schools.
2. Master’s degree or greater with major concentration in Educational Leadership and/or Curriculum Development.
3. Seven to ten years of experience in K-12 education, with demonstrated work in curriculum development, instructional leadership and educational program management and evaluation.
4. Skilled in project management.
5. Demonstrated ability to prepare and supervise federal and competitive grant preparation, implementation, supervision and evaluation.
6. Strong understanding of current educational research, best practices in teaching and learning, and data driven decision making.
7. Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders, including district and building administrators, teachers, parents, students and community members.
9. Ability to lead with integrity, vision and a focus on student achievement.
10. Knowledge of R.I. Consolidated Resource Plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:
-Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district's teaching and learning initiatives.
-Foster a culture of academic excellence, equity, and continuous learning.
-Collaborate with school leadership teams to ensure alignment of educational programs with district vision and mission.
-Monitor and assess the effectiveness of instructional practices, curricula, and student performance.
-Provide strategic oversight and leadership in the district's curriculum review, development, and adoption process.
-In conjunction with the district and building leadership team, coordinates the development, implementation and monitoring of the district’s strategic plan, School Improvement Plans and assists in facilitating and monitoring district initiatives.
-Responsible for supervision and evaluation building level administrators.
Curriculum and Instruction:
-Oversee the design and implementation of a rigorous and relevant K-12 curriculum across all subject areas.
-Ensure the integration of best practices in pedagogy and innovative teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
-Supervise the alignment of curriculum with state standards and district priorities.
-Support the use of data-driven instruction to drive decision-making at all grade levels.
-Establish clear expectations for teaching excellence and student outcomes, ensuring accountability for progress.
Professional Learning:
-Leads the district’s professional learning programs, including released time, conference participation and course attendance in collaboration with building level administrators and directors to support teacher and staff growth, instructional excellence, and student achievement.
-Identify opportunities for professional learning in emerging educational trends, best practices, and technological advancements.
-Foster collaborative learning among building administrators, teachers and staff to promote shared knowledge and instructional strategies.
Assessment and Data Analysis:
-In collaboration with building administrators and coaches, ensure the effective use of assessment data to guide instructional decisions, identify areas for improvement, and drive student achievement.
-Lead and support building administrators and coaches to monitor the effectiveness of instructional programs and make recommendations for improvements.
-Work to eliminate achievement gaps by providing equitable access to high-quality educational experiences.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month year. Salary to be within the range of $140,000-$155,000 commensurate with experience.
EVALUATION:
Performance in this position to be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools.
