ZI310 - Full-Time Nanny - New Canaan, CT

Overview

A warm and welcoming family in New Canaan, CT, seeks a temporary full-time nanny for their two children, aged 3.5-years and almost 7-years.  Start date is ASAP, end date unknown but there is potential for the position to extend into something more permanent. The family can be somewhat flexible around the schedule, however their ideal would be for the nanny to join them 4-5 days per week from approximately 8:30am-6pm.  It would be greatly appreciated if their nanny can be a little flexible in return, as Mum is juggling extra responsibilities caring for a parent at home who is going through an advanced-stage medical situation, and has a complicated schedule as a result.  

Responsibilities

Mum has been the primary caregiver for the children at home to this point but is needing to devote a lot of time to her ill parent currently. She will continue to be at home during the day and will engage with the children to the best of her ability, as it is important that the children don't experience too much sudden change at the moment. The nanny will therefore need to have a fabulous 'pitch-in' mentality, and be happy to tag-team with Mum to ensure the children's care is seamless and fluid.  Responsibilities will include:

• Supervising some schoolwork (for the 7yo) as needed
• Preparing light (healthy vegetarian) snacks and lunch
• Taking the children to activities/classes as needed
• Light housekeeping around the children (helping the children keep their areas clean and tidy and sometimes assisting with their laundry and ironing)
• Occasional light errands (like restocking the fridge)
• Generally ensuring that the children are engaged, happy, and focused in a positive direction
• Both children love music (playing their instruments, singing, and dancing) and art, so be prepared to assist as needed with some creative activities

Although certainly not required, it would be a much-appreciated added bonus if the candidate is also willing to sometimes sub in to help with Mum's responsibilities for her ill parent.  Responsibilities could include:

• Preparing specific light snacks/meals
• A bit of light laundry
• Staying with her occasionally if Mum needs to take one of the children somewhere
• Other occasional errands related to the grandparent's care etc

Requirements

• The ideal nanny has a calm, engaged, and warm approach to childcare, is comfortable keeping clear consistent boundaries in a loving and respectful way, sees children as wonderful beings with infinite potential, and enjoys really engaging with their interests.
• The children are curious, creative and relational, and love being outdoors exploring nature - candidates should therefore be excellent communicators, able to foster their imagination, support their learning and development, and must be comfortable nurturing enquiring minds.
• The 3yr old adores curling up on the sofa and being read his favourite books, so please be a strong advocate of reading and literature, and happy to indulge his passion. (The 7yo is an avid independent reader so will not need the nanny on that front.) 
• Candidates should be aware of the importance of positive interactions with the children, able to relate to their feelings and emotions with genuine understanding, and should be excellent at listening and providing positive direction when needed.
• The family can be reasonably flexible around the schedule, the most important thing for the family is to find the right fit very soon.
• Excellent English is essential and any other languages would be a bonus.
