Job description:
We are seeking a postdoctoral associate to join the Broad Institute to be mentored by Evan Macosko (emacosko@broadinstitute.org). In this role, the postdoc will lead efforts to characterize the molecular and cellular changes arising in mice and cell models harboring rare variant mutations associated with schizophrenia that were discovered by geneticists at the Stanley Center. The candidate should have a background in neuroscience and genomics, with an interest in integrating behavioral, physiological, and gene expression data to formulate and test mechanistic disease hypotheses. A successful candidate is expected to excel at critical thinking, formulation of mechanistic hypotheses, and developing approaches to their validation. The postdoctoral trainee will need to be highly self-motivated and able to leverage the multidisciplinary environment within the lab and across the Broad.
Job responsibilities:
The project's goal is to formulate and test hypotheses arising from the study of multiple rare variants associated with schizophrenia in intact animal models (already generated in the lab) and cell-based models.
- Design and implement genetic perturbation screens, biochemical assays, and cell biological systems to more deeply probe variant function.
- Leverage animal behavioral and physiological data to formulate hypotheses that link molecular and systems dysfunction.
- Supervise research associates to assist with data collection.

- PhD in a relevant biological discipline with first authorship publications demonstrating ability to lead and execute original scientific work.
