As leaders of the OASIS Consortium, which brings together 40 pharmaceutical/agrochemical companies, government agencies, academic labs and non-profit organizations, we aim to develop novel approaches for predicting liver toxicity to reduce reliance on animal testing and increase the accuracy of safety assessment. The dataset includes high-dimensional readouts including Cell Painting, transcriptomics and proteomics.
This project encompasses:
- Developing predictive models for liver toxicity using multi-modal data
- Assessing concordance between rat and human cell responses
- Comparing and combining multi-omic data to predict liver toxicity
Our lab pioneered Cell Painting, a leading image-based profiling assay used worldwide to quantify biological processes. Our open-source CellProfiler software, cited in over 19,000 papers, has enabled discoveries leading to several clinical trials. We also launched a major Cell Painting consortium with ten pharmaceutical companies to produce the largest public Cell Painting dataset. Through OASIS, we are creating the largest public dataset combining Cell Painting, transcriptomics, and proteomics for toxicity assessment.
Ph.D. required in one of the following:
- Computational field (Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics, or related) with data science experience in toxicology or related biomedical domains
- Toxicology or Pharmacology with familiarity with data science concepts and applications
Expertise in tox-related databases, ADME/DMPK principles, regulatory frameworks for safety assessment, and analysis of large-scale and/or high-dimensional biological data is highly desired. The ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding initiative, organizational ability, communication skills, and experience working in collaborations, especially large ones.
