About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Finance and Compliance Manager to provide strategic oversight of our financial operations, human resources, and compliance programs. In this leadership role, you will oversee accounts payable and cash flow management, ensure multi-state tax and certified payroll compliance, and manage HR functions like benefits administration and onboarding. You will also maintain legal compliance and track workplace safety initiatives to foster a secure, compliant work environment. This is a high-impact position for a proactive professional with at least 5 years of finance, compliance, or HR leadership experience looking to shape and protect a growing company.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight: Manage day-to-day finance operations including accounts payable, cash flow planning, and budget tracking. Ensure accurate record-keeping and timely financial reporting using QuickBooks Online.
- Compliance & Payroll: Ensure full compliance with multi-state tax laws and certified payroll requirements for public projects. Oversee payroll processing (via Gusto) and maintain meticulous records for audits and reporting.
- Human Resources & Benefits: Administer employee benefits (through the SIMON benefits portal) and lead new-hire onboarding. Serve as a point of contact for HR compliance, coordinating policies, training, and documentation.
- Legal & Safety Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with all legal regulations (labor laws, insurance, etc.). Track safety programs and incident reports, working with management to uphold OSHA standards and promote a safe workplace.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve finance and HR processes. Leverage tools like QuickBooks Online, Gusto, Fyle (expense reporting), and other software to streamline operations and reporting.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 5 years in a finance, compliance, or HR leadership role (managerial experience in a small-to-mid-sized company preferred).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with QuickBooks Online for accounting, Gusto (or similar payroll systems) for payroll/HR, and solid skills in Excel or Google Sheets. Familiarity with expense management tools (e.g., Fyle) and benefits portals is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, multi-state payroll tax regulations, and HR compliance requirements. Experience with certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage compliance is highly desirable.
- Soft Skills: Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally and with external partners (auditors, benefits providers, etc.). A proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently in a leadership capacity.
