What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Accountant & Data Analyst, Royalty Accounting position at Broadcast Music, Inc?
POSITION SUMMARY
Key role for overseeing BMI’s royalty accounting operations and data analytics, which includes GAAP compliance, operational activities, financial reporting and analysis, data queries, documentation, internal controls, ad hoc projects and improvement of accounting procedures, systems and processes. This position requires meeting deadlines, partnering across multiple functional areas, being flexible to meet other tasks when needed and work independently with minimal supervision.
LOCATION
Nashville, TN office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
- Works with Royalty Accounting leadership to fund distribution sources and reconciles information to the general ledger.
- Tracks distribution expense and the related liability across performance periods to ensure it is adequate to support distribution payments and to ensure that it is paid out per company policy.
- Supports quarterly true-up of recoupment on advance & guarantee contracts to ensure balances are properly recorded.
- Calculates short-term and long-term classifications for advance & guarantee contracts.
- Performs impairment reviews of advance & guarantee contracts including analysis of quantitative and qualitative information in collaboration with other departments.
- Participates in month end close as needed for journal entries and analytics.
- Gathers and analyzes data related to advances, guarantees, and distributions for reporting and ad-hoc request leveraging query tools.
- Assists with international receipt tracking and identification of performance periods.
- Participates in business requirements, design and testing of new systems related to distribution funding and other royalty accounting system enhancements.
- Participates in year-end external financial audit.
- Creates new or performs timely updates to applicable policies, process flows and procedures.
- Maintains high standards through use of “best practices.”
- Participates in special projects as needed.
- Adheres to internal controls and accounting policies.
- Continually updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required. CPA preferred.
Experience: Minimum 5 years’ accounting or finance experience with a focus on analytics, reporting and GAAP concepts. Experience in royalty accounting and music industry a plus.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES

- Strong in the use of Microsoft Office software including strong ability to analyze data using Excel for reporting and data mining purposes
- Extensive experience creating and modifying Microsoft Excel spreadsheets used for analyzing widely diverse types of data.
- Experience in creating queries and reports from complex relational databases using Microsoft Access, Toad or equivalent software tools.
- Ability to understand database table structure and how it relates to software applications.
- Ability to understand related accounting policies and procedures.
- Critical thinking
- Capable of handling multiple tasks while meeting the established deadlines.
- Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbally, in a professional manner.
- Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to changes and quickly learn new processes.
- Must be a team player, flexible, open to challenges, and ability to interact with all levels of company personnel.
LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
CPA preferred
SALARY RANGE
The specific base salary offered to a successful applicant will be based on individual qualifications, skills, experience, and education. The pay range is subject to change at any time based on various internal and external factors. The position may also be eligible for one or more performance-based bonuses.
