Position Overview :
The OSP Design Engineer (GIS / CAD) will handle network infrastructure planning and design for fiber and copper installations, both aerial and underground, within an assigned region. Responsibilities include preparing detailed project documentation such as work order packages, field notes, schematics, and permitting details. This role requires a strong understanding of OSP network deployment from concept to execution, ensuring cost-effective and efficient placement of communication infrastructure.
Reporting Structure :
This position does not have direct reports.
Required Qualifications :
Active driver’s license suitable for professional use
Familiarity with permitting, easement guidelines, and ROW regulations
Knowledge of fiber optic and copper infrastructure
Strong computer proficiency
Ability to track project progress and maintain accurate reporting
Self-motivated with strong follow-through and minimal supervision
Strong verbal communication and relationship-building skills
Capable of managing multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
Preferred Skills & Experience :
Background in GIS / CAD-based network design
Understanding of industry standards, including RUS codes and NESC guidelines
Key Responsibilities :
Develops technical work packages, including layout documentation
Reviews and approves engineering plans within internal systems
Maintains up-to-date records for assigned regions
Ensures adherence to installation, splicing, safety, and equipment standards
Confirms network capacity for new developments
Proactively initiates projects to align with service delivery timelines
Physical & Travel Expectations :
Extended computer use and desk-based work
Ability to distinguish color variations in designs
Occasional lifting of light to moderate loads
Adaptability to moderate office noise levels
