What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Tax position at Broadstone Net Lease?
As a member of the BNL Tax Team, the Tax Manager will be responsible for REIT compliance, domestic and international tax compliance, ASC-740 income tax reporting requirements, tax research and special projects, all while ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act governing internal controls. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who will assume ownership and manage significant pieces of the tax and reporting functions. This position reports to the Vice Present, Tax.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare REIT due diligence documentation and quarterly compliance testing to ensure that the Company maintains its REIT status, including preparation of taxable income forecast to monitor dividend requirements.
- Coordinate with and manage aspects of the external service providers on preparation of federal, state, and international tax returns. Assist in the review of tax returns prepared by external service providers.
- Prepare quarterly tax estimates and extension calculations; oversee estimated, extension, and return payments.
- Prepare interim and annual tax provisions, workpaper support, and disclosures for financial reporting purposes.
- Manage all aspects of tax fixed assets, including coordination of workflow, review of the depreciation schedules, and responsibility for the accuracy of all tax basis records, including 1031 exchanges.
- Manage and prepare various tax forms including information reporting, state and local tax, and personal property tax.
- Coordinate and respond to tax notices in a timely manner.
- Perform tax research and document as required.
- Executes duties and maintains standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Additional duties as required.
- Overtime hours may be required as job duties demand.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required
- 5 years relevant tax experience, industry setting required
- Solid experience and working knowledge of corporate and partnership tax with a focus on multi-state income tax
- Working knowledge of GAAP income tax provisions
- Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the financial statements based upon them
- Real estate industry experience preferred, knowledge of REITs a plus
- Public Company experience preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or progress towards the designation preferred
Environment and Physical Demands:
- Professional office environment with routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machine; noise level typical of a standard office environment
- Prolonged sitting, computer, and telephone use, as well as standing, filing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting, and carrying up to 15 pounds
- Ability to travel by plane, train, and automobile and operate a motor vehicle

The base salary range for this role is: $90,000 - $110,000. This range is Broadstones good faith estimate of the annual base salary it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to the individuals experience, skillset, relevant education & certifications, job-related knowledge, location, and other relevant factors identified through the recruitment & selection process.
