Brock11 is currently recruiting for a Lead Surveyor – Commercial and Industrial Building on behalf of a respected client in the construction and industrial services sector. This key position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of surveying on job sites, including building layouts, site control, property boundaries, and road alignment. The role also includes managing surveying subcontractors, participating as a licensed drone pilot, and mentoring internal survey staff on best practices, equipment, and emerging technologies.
This is a highly technical and leadership-focused role suited for a seasoned professional who thrives in dynamic environments and has a strong grasp of geospatial data, construction workflows, and team development.
This position has a base pay opportunity of 90K-110K based on experience, plus bonus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain precise project control networks for structural elements such as anchor bolts and equipment foundations.
- Set accurate monumentation (horizontal/vertical) to guide Millwrights in plant equipment installation.
- Record and calculate geospatial data for a variety of construction projects.
- Operate and maintain modern surveying equipment including Trimble GNSS, robotic total stations, digital leveling instruments, and data collectors.
- Implement project-level quality control and quality assurance processes.
- Collaborate with the Survey Manager, VDC department, and Machine Control Specialist to ensure field teams have access to the latest foundation and excavation models.
- Support drone operations as a licensed pilot, including site setup and GNSS ground control points.
- Utilize Propeller software for site visualization, quantity takeoffs, and CAD design overlays.
- Compile as-built data for use in steel erection and assist with utility location coordination across projects.
- Ensure strict adherence to jobsite safety standards.
- Communicate expectations clearly and effectively with field teams and stakeholders.
- Assist in onboarding and ongoing training for survey crew members, including career development planning.
- Support the Survey Manager in identifying and integrating new technologies and tools into field workflows.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with owners, clients, and subcontractors.
- Work in a variety of environmental conditions and navigate rugged terrain as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong working knowledge of CAD-based surveying software, including AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, and Trimble Business Center.
- Deep understanding of Geomatics and geospatial data management.
- Proven multitasking and follow-through abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
- Ability to interpret complex construction drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
- Demonstrated success in adopting and implementing new surveying technologies.
- Familiarity with construction safety practices and regulatory compliance.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with a team-oriented mindset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the construction industry, with a focus on commercial and industrial projects.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot certification preferred but not mandatory.
Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
