Pediatric Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinician

POSITION SUMMARY:
The fulltime, experienced, mission-oriented Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician works as part of a diverse treatment team in a multicultural community health center to coordinate and deliver cost-effective mental health services for BNHC patients. The clinician provides outpatient Behavioral Health services for individuals, families and groups to promote optimum mental health.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Respond to patient referrals by assessing and evaluating all relevant information in the formulation of a bio-psychosocial assessment and treatment plan. The plan shall be communicated both orally and in written form with the patient. The document is maintained in the patient’s medical record.
  2. Conducts a target of 28 billable hours per week, including individual, family, and group therapy sessions and case consultations.
  3. Provide evidence-based interventions to all patients and their families, taking into account their unique cultural backgrounds. Psychosocial education around such issues as development through the life cycle, social/emotional impact of chronic illness and trauma will be provided to patients and their families as appropriate.
  4. Encourage patients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
  5. Guide patients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems.
  6. Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports.
  7. Counsel patients individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
  8. Act as patient advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  9. Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge on a quarterly basis.
  10. Refer patients or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary. Initials:________
  11. Learn about new developments in field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
  12. Participate as an integral member of interdisciplinary health care team for the provision of services to patients and families.

  14. Consult with BHI team and larger treatment team (PCPs, Nurses, CHWs) regularly to ensure well rounded treatment for patients.
  15. Is pleasant, courteous, and considerate of patients and co-workers.
  16. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  17. Maintains patient documentation in a professional and timely manner.
  18. Performs projects as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Experienced Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Psychologist (Psy.D. or Ph.D.) Those currently seeking licensure, in Social Work (LICSW), Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) may also be considered.
Should have a minimum of 2 yrs. postgraduate clinical experience. Multilingual in English, Cape Verdean creole preferred. Professional experiences working with children, adolescents, and families required.
MINIMAL KNOWLEDGE BASE:
  • Knowledge of patient advocacy and local service agencies.
  • Knowledge and skills to conduct assessment and treatment plan, inclusive of appropriate goals and interventions.
  • Basic computer skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
A busy community health center located in a downtown business district. Occasional long hours and offsite training and meetings may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical demands requiring lifting of small pieces of equipment and/or boxes not to exceed 20 pounds. Mostly sedentary, with interoffice walking required. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading. Hearing acuity sufficient for holding conversations with or without audio devices.

As a condition of employment, employees, to include new hires, are required to be fully vaccinated to include the most recent COVID 19 booster and annual flu vaccines, with the exception of those who have documented medical or religious exemptions, that must be approved by BNHC according to its protocols. Additional vaccines may be required based on the recommendation of the CDC. New hires who are not yet vaccinated for flu or COVID can arrange to be vaccinated
