JOB SUMMARY: The phlebotomist will be responsible for drawing blood, labeling samples and then working closely with the technologists to make sure that the samples are handled properly. The phlebotomist will provide excellent patient service.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
- Adheres to Brodstone Healthcare’s Mission, Vision and Values.

- Draws blood from patients (adults, children or infants) by venipuncture or capillary puncture as per procedure.
- After training and authorization performs arterial blood collection for blood gases and therapeutic phlebotomies.
- After training and certification does urine drug screen collection and breath alcohol testing for DOT and non-DOT accounts.
- Performs and documents routine maintenance, quality control and patient testing on the beside glucose analyzer.
- Performs and documents routine maintenance and patient testing on the capillary coagulation/INR analyzer.
- Manages patient scheduling and test orders for outpatient lab orders.
- Performs medical necessity checking on all Medicare patient orders.
- Reviews the previous day lab and business office billing report.
- Responsible for stocking phlebotomy supplies, various housekeeping duties and documenting daily laboratory temperatures.
- Participates in orientation of new personnel.
- Abides by the policies and procedures of the facility. Standards of conduct in the Compliance Plan and participates in the ongoing monitoring of activities with respect to compliance.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings / in-services, Brodstone Healthcare’s quality improvement program, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
