What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roof Bolter I position at Bronco Utah Operations LLC?
Bronco Utah is an underground coal mine located in rural, central Utah. We extract bituminous coal by way of continuous miners and continue to expand our operations as we look towards the future of coal mining.
Job Summary:
The Roof Bolter I operates machinery to install roof support bolts in the underground mine.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Drill bolt holes for testing and bolt preparation into roofs at specified distances from ribs or adjacent bolts.
- Pull down loose rock that cannot be supported.
- Position bolting machines, and insert drill bits into chucks.
- Perform safety checks on equipment before operating.
- Perform tests to determine if methane gas is present.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Familiarity and general understanding of MSHA regulations
- Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
- Operations Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Equipment Maintenance — Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Troubleshooting — Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
- Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Proficient in reading and speaking English
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 or more years in underground coal mine production
- 2 or more years in the coal mining industry
Preferred Qualifications:
- MSHA 5000-23 for Underground Coal
- 1 or more years as a Roof Bolter
Physical Abilities:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
