Title

Operational Improvement Consultant - Onsite

The Operational Improvement Consultant is a full-time employed position that facilitates, leads, and supports identified projects and initiatives throughout the Bronson Healthcare System. Utilizing Lean methodology, queuing, distribution, logistics and service design to support better processes and improvements in a variety of clinical and non-direct clinical care areas. Analytical ability is necessary to interpret and present data in a manner that is understandable and useful to problem solving.

This position works closely with Bronson leaders using the A3 problem-solving process to define the problem to be solved, understand the current condition, set the desired target condition (including goals), and then facilitate / coach a team to develop innovative solutions and process changes that improve performance. Will facilitate learning of the Bronson Management System as directed when leadership needs assistance or support.

Education / Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (for example : a BSN, BS, or BBA) is required.
  • 3-5 years of Lean methodology and continuous improvement experience is required.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary / systems-focused project management
  • Ability and experience in utilizing computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, electronic mail, and other software relevant to the job
  • Demonstrated high level of analytic ability required to gather, organize, analyze, and interpret complex data and develop recommendations for unique organizational opportunities
  • Demonstrated team leadership / facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of process improvement tools and methodology (i.e. PDCA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have skills in formal presentations to groups
  • Must have excellent customer service skills for initiation, recommendation, implementation, and evaluation of assigned projects.

Job Duties

  • Facilitate improvement activities using A3 methodology with operational leadership by :
  • Identifying problem
  • Setting goals
  • Analyzing current state
  • Solving problems at the root cause
  • Implementing Lean fundamentals to improve processes
  • Monitoring performance
  • Engaging in the PDCA cycle
  • Assist in the creation of standard processes with standard work included
  • Manage improvement activities by progressing the request from beginning to end, including :

  • Scheduling meetings
  • Communicating with professional, effective meeting summaries or minutes
  • Establishing activity scope and timelines
  • Determining appropriate cadence of activities based on scope
  • Assisting leaders in setting improvement goals
  • Documenting group activities
  • Ongoing monitoring of activity effectiveness
  • Developing / recording activities regarding process changes
  • Communicating recommended changes and / or group outcomes to appropriate audiences in a written / oral report or presentation (e.g. Executive Oversight Groups, Medical / Nursing / Other Leadership, etc.)
  • Measurement and reporting of outcomes (e.g., bed turnover data, census data, hours per patient day, patient wait time, and regional referrals) with the goal of enabling independence for continued measurement needs.
  • Use Lean tools to analyze / evaluate work processes in a variety of departments and provide recommendations to leaders at all levels in the organization.
  • for process improvement, evaluation of trends, and measurement.
  • Utilize PDCA, Lean, and other principles and methods to enhance business and clinical performance.
  • Management System Support
  • Coach leaders in problem solving methodology
  • Lean Methodology Training
  • Facilitate training sessions regarding Lean methodology as identified by leadership need
  • Work which produces high levels of mental / visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
