Title
Psychotherapist
Reporting to the Clinical Manager. Psychotherapist is responsible for the initial screening and assessment of employees of contracted companies, their household members for substance abuse dependence, mental health, marriage and family problems, financial, legal, and vocational issues. Makes determinations and recommendations as to the most appropriate level of care needed. Provides crisis intervention and grief counseling techniques. Maintains accurate and complete documentation to comply with regulatory requirements. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the populations served. Full time clinical case load, including the delivery of some organizational support services.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling with experience and course work in both mental health and substance abuse field, and 2-3 years post Master’s experience required
Experience with screening, assessment, and providing brief therapeutic interventions to individuals ages 5 and up is required
Maintain applicable State Licensure or Certification (must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan)

Work which rarely produces an elevated level of mental/visual fatigue, i.e., less than 20 percent of the work time. The job produces some physical demands, typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
- Assesses the presenting and longstanding problems of clients. Educates the client about the EAP benefits and how the program works.
- Makes determinations concerning the utilization of short-term therapy, according to established policies, or appropriate referral to a community treatment provider or helping resource, advising client on how to access insurance.
- Provides Management Referral services and manages other complex cases which require significant interaction and follow-up with client, employer, union officials, and treatment professionals.
- Document initial and subsequent contacts with all clients referred to HelpNet, indicating client psychosocial history, diagnostic impressions, and recommendations. Document progress of treatment and follow-up care if/when a referral is made for longer-term treatment. Responsible for maintenance of client files to ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency requirements.
- Maintains appropriate level of confidentiality for all clients using HelpNet services, to meet State and Federal laws.
- Facilitate and coordinate workshops/seminars on topics related to the EAP field.
- Maintains communication with agencies for referral development. Interacts with personnel from contracted organizations, etc.
- Participates in hospital and department education and improvement measures by attending staff meetings.
- Conducts job functions in accordance with established department and system policies and procedures.
- Maintains knowledge of current developments in EAP, mental health, and substance abuse treatments through participation in professional associations, seminars, and incorporates advancement into areas of responsibility as appropriate.
- Maintains current knowledge of local and national treatment providers, including fee schedules, areas of expertise, and insurance coverage.
- Requires occasional interruptions and changing work priorities and frequent performance of detailed tasks.
- Deals with life/death situations and individuals in crisis.

- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, as well as other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
