Job Description:
Under general supervision, the unit coordinator functions as a leader and clinical liaison, ensuring continuity of leadership and fostering a team environment. The role includes mentoring, coaching, and resource management, assisting with hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, staffing, and budgeting. This position provides leadership succession opportunities and supports a safe environment that fosters positive customer service and meets quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acts as a role model, mentor, and coach for staff.
- Assists in attracting, developing, and retaining staff.
- Coordinates day-to-day unit operations, including patient placement and staff assignments.
- Adjusts staffing levels to meet daily needs, including managing volume changes.
- Provides guidance for staff and ensures adherence to standards and policies.
- Monitors and evaluates staff performance and provides feedback.
- Assists in recruitment, selection, and retention of staff.
- Facilitates staff meetings and provides mentorship.
- Ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with 2 years of clinical experience required.
- Master’s degree in Nursing and previous management experience preferred.
- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the State of Michigan.
- Advanced Nursing Specific Certification preferred (PALS, BLS, ACLS).
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to use software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage staff.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and move bulky or moderately heavy weights (up to 50 pounds).
- High levels of mental/visual fatigue may occur due to detailed work requiring concentration.
- Must be able to speak and write English fluently.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Acts as the clinical expert, mentoring staff and facilitating a team-oriented environment.
- Facilitates planning and conducting shared governance meetings.
- Coordinates and mentors staff, monitors performance, and communicates performance issues.
- Provides guidance and feedback on job performance and participates in the employee discipline process.
Specific Duties for Pre-Admission Surgery/Endo Screening:
- Position requires patient contact, but only via phone calls.
Recipient Rights Education (Bronson Lakeview Neurobehavioral Health):
- Employees must participate in recipient rights education.
- Ensures recipients’ rights are protected in compliance with Michigan Mental Health Code.
- Submits annual reports on recipient rights violations and actions taken.
