Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) was founded in 1996 to ensure that the socio-economically depressed and medically underserved residents of the Bronx have access to high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services, Bronx Community Health Network (BCHN) is a not-for-profit, community-based organization and Federally Qualified Health Center. The organization provides a wide range of comprehensive, coordinated primary medical, oral, and mental health care and related diagnostic, pharmacy, social support, and enabling services for medically underserved / uninsured residents.
BCHN’s mission is to improve the health of people and families in the Bronx; provide access to affordable, quality health care, especially for uninsured persons; promote disease prevention, early treatment and healthful lifestyles; and obtain financial and other resources for programs and services. BCHN’s service area includes the entire borough of the Bronx, including all 25 zip codes. Within this area, Health Center sites focus on the low-income and underserved populations.
About the Role : The Dental Hygienist will help treat patients and promote good oral health practices by conducting initial patient screenings. Duties include cleaning teeth, advising patients on oral health and preventative care. The Dental Hygienist will help dentists decide treatments for teeth or gum diseases and handle dental emergencies. As a Dental Hygienist you should have a deep knowledge of relevant health and safety rules for the management of oral diseases and anomalies.
- Conduct initial mouth screenings and check oral health history.
- Coach patients to increase their dental knowledge and enthusiasm about at-home dental care.
- Teach patients about proper teeth cleaning techniques.
- Build long-lasting, trusting relationships with dental patients.
- Examine and prioritize patients requiring preventive and remedial dental care; follow up to ensure that treatment is provided.
- Take x-rays and review them for signs of dental diseases.
- Perform dental hygiene procedures, including cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth.
- Recommend care to improve a patient’s oral health.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
