We are seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist who will be responsible for executing a variety of AP procedures, including processing large volumes of incoming vendor invoices, coding invoices, requesting approvals and maintaining a good relationship with our valued suppliers.

The organization provides a wide range of comprehensive, coordinated primary medical, oral, and mental health care and related diagnostic, pharmacy, social support, and enabling services for medically underserved/uninsured residents.
BCHN’s mission is to improve the health of people and families in the Bronx; provide access to affordable, quality health care, especially for uninsured people; promote disease prevention, early treatment and healthful lifestyles; and obtain financial and other resources for programs and services. BCHN’s service area includes the entire borough of the Bronx, including all 25 zip codes. Within this area, Health Center sites focus on the low-income and underserved populations.
About the Role: The Accountant Payable Specialist team help process, track and analyze full-cycle AP processing in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner. The candidate will be responsible for executing a variety of AP procedures, including processing large volumes of incoming vendor invoices, coding invoices, requesting approvals and maintaining a good relationship with our valued suppliers.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately review, code and process vendor invoices
- Communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely payments.
- Reconcile accounts payable by ledger with vendor statements and assist with month-end and year-end closing.
- Ensure payments are processed in alignment with company policies and governmental regulations.
- Request and follow up on invoice approvals
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues
- Manage AP workflow by developing and maintaining Excel spreadsheets
- Prepare and process payment runs (e.g., checks, wire transfers)
- Assist in managing vendor relationships, including responding to inquiries and reconciling statements
- Collect contracts and follow the protocol of setting up new vendors in the accounting system
- Support cash projections by vendor to ensure adequate cash flow planning
- Communicate effectively with vendors, stakeholders, and internal teams to resolve accounting issues
- Ensure that all incoming invoices are submitted, coded and approved on time
- Prepare journal entries according to the manager’s request
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting, finance
- 2-3 years of relevant accounts payable experience
- Knowledge of accounting and accounts payable practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Work and Outlook including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and other advanced functions
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Well-organized and detail-oriented skills
- Advanced computer skills and knowledge of relevant software including MS Excel, Word and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· FQHC experience a plus.
Salary: Compensation based on skills; experience $ 60,000 - $65,000 annually
This role is hybrid, requiring three (3) days per week in the office. The remaining two (2) days may be worked remotely. Specific in-office days will be discussed during the interview process, with flexibility to align with team needs. Please note that the number of required in-office days may be adjusted over time, potentially increasing the number of required in-office days based on business needs.
