LEAD CUSTODIAN
12-month position
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Facilities Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general supervision of the principal, oversees and personally performs work required to maintain the related building and adjacent grounds in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition. Performs a variety of custodial, grounds keeping, minor repairs, and related tasks associated with the upkeep of the facilities and grounds. Works in partnership with the Facilities Manager on projects or events that involve the school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Assumes responsibilities for and keeps the principal informed on matters relating to the overall health, safety, sanitation and operating condition of the school building
•Available for emergency calls from School or District Administrators 24-hours a day
•Responsible for daily custodial cleaning or minor repair work
•Performs general site inspections, records and reports discrepancies, generates work requests and purchase orders
•Implements a program of preventive maintenance
•Responsible for scheduling, inspecting and approving the work of outside contractors who make repairs and/or improvements to school property
•Responsible for inspection and repairs on all custodial equipment
•Orders custodial supplies and equipment, controls use and storage of consumable supplies and materials
•Maintains records and provides reports, as required
•Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Facilities Manager
ABILITY TO:
•operate common and specialized cleaning equipment and tools
•perform heavy physical labor to include lifting, pulling, pushing and working on ladders
•use hand and small power tools to accomplish minor repairs and adjustments, employing general handyman skills
•work without direct supervision, maintain schedules, set priorities, organize tasks, coordinates and instructs the work of others
•adhere to safety standards and safe practices especially in the handling and use of chemicals and blood borne pathogens
•maintain cooperative and productive working relationships through the use of courtesy and tact when dealing with others
•carry out complex and /or multiple tasks
•prepare accurate reports and maintains records
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•High School Graduate or Equivalent
•A valid driver’s license in the state of residence
•Minimum 3 years’ experience in facilities cleaning or maintenance
•Experience in a supervisory role preferred
•Demonstrated leadership skills
•Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with facilities personnel, building principals, central administrators and vendors.
•Demonstrated organizational skills.
•Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
•Those with trade experience, i.e. plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, etc. are encouraged to apply
•Must be able to pass CORI and fingerprint-based state and national criminal background tests
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Knowledge of School Dude or other facility management software

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, an employee may occasionally be required to work in adverse job environmental conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
