Part-Time Tour Guide/Interpreter - Brookgreen Gardens

About Us: Brookgreen Gardens, a non-profit, mission-oriented public outdoor sculpture and botanical garden and zoo, is seeking a dedicated part-time Tour Guide/Interpreter to join our Guest Services team. Position Summary: The Tour Guide/Interpreter presents historic programs developed by Brookgreen Gardens to the general public and special groups. This role involves working in diverse program venues, including a Creek Excursion on a 48-passenger pontoon boat and tour vehicles traveling into the backwoods of Brookgreen. This position is part time and requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work a minimum three full days per week, preferably four, for up to 28 hours each week, including weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate scripted material into informative and enjoyable guest experiences.
  • Collect tickets and maintain daily records.
  • Communicate interpretive materials effectively, demonstrating knowledge of Lowcountry culture, history, and animal/plant identification.
  • Attend interpretive training sessions and assist education staff with training as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in public speaking, lecturing, training, guided tours, or related fields.
  • Outgoing personality with strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of animals, plants, and culture of the Lowcountry.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in driving large vehicles over rough terrain.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
  • Ability to work a minimum of three full days per week, preferably four, for up to 28 hours each week, including weekends and holidays.
