Organizational Overview
Our Computational Science Initiative (CSI) is establishing BNL as a global leader in tackling the challenges of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing and High-Performance Computing, building on our existing expertise, capabilities, and investments in computational science and data management, and enabling scientific discovery in large-scale experimental environments. The mission of the CSI is to provide the laboratory an umbrella for research and development activities that address the computational needs of research programs both inside and outside of BNL. Webring together computer scientists, applied mathematicians and domain scientists to carry out leading edge research, convert research results into practical solutions that advance domain science and provide the necessary computing infrastructure services and training to support efficient operations
Position Description
An associate staff engineer position is available immediately in Computational Science Initiative (CSI) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The successful candidate will conduct general research for high-performance computing, and research into high-performance systems for machine learning.
- Performs specific and limited portions of analysis, design and general execution of parts of a broader engineering assignment under the direction of a more experienced engineer, related to algorithms in computational biology, climate, high energy physics, etc.
- Strategy development for the field of High-performance computing for ML with focus on our lab’s applications, support in strategic decision making with regard to various science problem.
- Participate in the deployment of advanced methods and operate specialized computations. Work will be reviewed for soundness of technical judgment.
- Promote collaborative research with interdisciplinary research team.
Position Requirements
- Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering, computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math or related discipline
- Knowledge and/or experience with high-performance computing, systems, applications, tools
- Knowledge and/or expereince with general ML libraries and toolkits
- Good oral and written communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary scientific collaboration
