Position Summary:
Supervise nursing staff in accordance with facility policy and assume responsibility for the Assisted Living in the absence of the Director. Overall administration and supervision of both units including; ensuring quality care; training and supervision of professional and support personnel; disciplining and/or termination of unit personnel with guidance of human resources; administering personal hygienic, preventative, therapeutic and rehabilitation services to residents and assists in the coordination of nursing care provided by other disciplines.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Manage nursing units which includes ensuring daily work assignments are completed, supervise the delivery of quality resident care
- Communicate to Director changes in resident conditions, staffing issues or changes, concerns regarding personnel issues, transportation conflicts, etc.
- Assist nurses in completion of tasks including medication administration, treatments, occurrences, managing staff, communication to families, etc. in order to effectively time manage and prevent overtime.
- Round with physicians, share information necessary for care of residents, transcribe and implemented, ensure orders are signed.
- Monitor faxes and communications to physicians; assure that orders are signed promptly according to policy.
- Monitor completion of physician orders such as obtaining urine or stool samples.
- Assure compliance with appropriate activities on Lakeside and give instructions to staff as needed.
- Keeps units clean, hazard free and deals appropriately with emergencies.
- Identifies and anticipates the needs of residents and staff and provide intervention as appropriate.
- Maintains weekly charting on residents receiving skilled nursing care as required by ODH.
- Orient new admissions to unit and insure that all systems are operation for the care and comfort of the resident.
- Participates in the hiring, evaluation and termination process of personnel.
- Train, supervises and provides ongoing in-service education to personnel, monitor staff attendance at monthly mandatory in-services.
- Administer corrective action when policies are broken.
- Assists nurse and unit personnel in interpreting and planning assignments and in executing difficult assignments.
- Attends supervisory/managerial meetings, conferences and staff meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality with regard to resident and employee records and other management information received.
- Maintains and responsible for the proper use, care and treatment of unit equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing and currently licensed/registered with the Ohio State Board of Nursing to practice.
- Must be or become familiar with organization, functions, policies and procedures and state regulations as they relate to nursing services and Assisted Living rules.
- Must be committed to the standards of gerontological nursing and be licensed to administer medications according to state laws and have current CPR certification.
