JOB GOALS: Responsible for assisting the special education teacher in custodial duties and the general supervision and management of special education children
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:
- Meets all professional conduct standards as set by the MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of Conduct
- Assists in the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the teacher
- Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers and preparing needed materials and supplies
- Supervises the classroom when the teacher is out of the room
- Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school
- Assists children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
- Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
- Distributes teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students
- Distributes tests and homework assignments, and collect them when they are completed
- Enforces administration policies and rules governing students
- Organizes and labels materials, and displays students’ work appropriate for their perceptual skills
- Assists with organization and supervision of games and other recreational activities to promote physical, self-help, motor, language, cognitive, and social development
- Assists with student feeding, toileting, and other areas as determined by the student’s IEP
- Keeps an open line of communication with the parents or guardians, teachers, principals, and director
- Participates in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of skill development
- Follows the District Instructional Management Plan including the Multi-Tiered System of Supports
- Reports on time to duty posts and performs duty responsibilities as assigned by the school administration
- Follows all board policies and procedures
- Maintains regular attendance and is punctual
- Promotes the district’s vision, mission, and goals
- Performs any other duties as outlined by the Principal and Director of Special Services
