QUALIFIED APPLICANTS MUST HAVE: 1) completed 48 semester hours at an institution of higher learning OR obtained an associate's degree OR High School Diploma/GED and received Silver Level on the ACT WorkKeys assessment.

 

JOB GOALS:  Responsible for assisting the special education teacher in custodial duties and the general supervision and management of special education children

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:        Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:

  1. Meets all professional conduct standards as set by the MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of Conduct
  2. Assists in the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the teacher
  3. Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers and preparing needed materials and supplies
  4. Supervises the classroom when the teacher is out of the room
  5. Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school
  6. Assists children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
  7. Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
  8. Distributes teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students
  9. Distributes tests and homework assignments, and collect them when they are completed
  10. Enforces administration policies and rules governing students
  11. Organizes and labels materials, and displays students’ work appropriate for their perceptual skills
  12. Assists with organization and supervision of games and other recreational activities to promote physical, self-help, motor, language, cognitive, and social development
  13. Assists with student feeding, toileting, and other areas as determined by the student’s IEP
  14. Keeps an open line of communication with the parents or guardians, teachers, principals, and director
  15. Participates in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of skill development
  16. Follows the District Instructional Management Plan including the Multi-Tiered System of Supports
  17. Reports on time to duty posts and performs duty responsibilities as assigned by the school administration
  18. Follows all board policies and procedures
  19. Maintains regular attendance and is punctual
  20. Promotes the district’s vision, mission, and goals
  21. Performs any other duties as outlined by the Principal and Director of Special Services
