Job Description Curriculum Coordinator Science
Reports to: Head of School
SUMMARY: The Science curriculum coordinator provides instructional leadership for the Science department. The curriculum coordinator also evaluates teachers and provides professional development for department instructors.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or higher;
- Massachusetts DESE license as a Director/Supervisor
- Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching Science
- Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to use technology effectively
- Ability coach teachers in the three content areas
- Knowledge of assessment practices, including use of assessment to inform instruction and evaluate programs
Key Responsibilities & Skills
Leadership & Management
- Lead, support, and manage a department of ~25 Science teachers.
- Provide curriculum and instructional leadership aligned with school and district goals, including culturally responsive teaching and universally designed learning.
- Ensure alignment and consistency in Science instruction across grade levels.
- Serve as the primary evaluator for High School Science teachers.
- Supervise and collaborate with the department lab aide to manage science supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate and manage supplies budget for the department.
- Coordinator and manage sectioning and staffing of courses through the scheduling process.
Curriculum & Instruction
- Teach one full-year science class.
- Guide curriculum development and alignment to state and national standards.
- Oversee the review and revision of board-adopted curriculum based on assessment data and stakeholder feedback.
- Stay current with best practices in curriculum, instruction, and pedagogy.
- Provide instructional modeling and support in research-based teaching practices.
- Collaborate with district staff and community partners to evaluate programs.
Professional Development & Collaboration
- Plan, deliver, and coordinate professional development for Science staff.
- Offer instructional feedback and coaching to colleagues.
- Work with administrators and colleagues to inform schoolwide policies and initiatives.
Data Analysis & Student Support
- Interpret and analyze data to make informed instructional and operational decisions.
- Support intervention planning and implementation in accordance with state mandates and district policies.
- Develop and evaluate tiered intervention measures in collaboration with building staff.
Communication & Problem-Solving
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and district personnel.
- Address concerns from stakeholders professionally and constructively.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Proficient in Google Suite and educational online platforms.
- Ability to interpret and apply curricular standards.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in dynamic environments.
