Brooklyn Public Library is seeking an Outreach Specialist to provide quality public service in neighborhood libraries throughout BPL as well as at the Business & Career Center at the Central Library. Brooklyn Public Library welcomes the opportunity to prioritize and provide coordinated economic development programs, services, and resources. The Outreach Specialist plays an important role in the presentation of public programs for entrepreneurs, job seekers, investors and all individuals interested in securing their financial well-being. They work alongside others to schedule, promote, and coordinate all aspects of B&CC events at the Central Library as well as support B&CC programs and services at BPL branches and at outside events. They are responsible for meeting and greeting the public and for communicating with internal and external partners. The Outreach Specialist works closely with the Programs Manager to implement the PowerUP business plan competition and all special projects of the B&CC.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with Programs Manager and B&CC librarians to create, calendar and deliver programs for entrepreneurs, investors and job seekers in the Business & Career Center and in BPL branches.
- Calendar regular services and series in the B&CC spaces; ensure full and active public participation.
- Interfaces with partners regarding the use of meeting rooms at B&CC; reserves meeting rooms as necessary
- Identifies and develops relationships with community organizations and government agencies to deliver business and career programs at BPL.
- Responsible for all logistics for events and programs; manages staff to ensure speakers’ needs, catering, and tech equipment are handled.
- Works with BPL Marketing Department to create and disseminate promotional information and outreach materials to the public and partner organizations in print and online
- Provides support for the coordination of special projects including BKLYN Fashion Academy
- Represents B&CC at major programs; provides an overview of services, is the liaison to the organization and introduces speakers
- Manages program logistics including registration, online calendars, internal event forms, maintaining mailing lists, and recording of statistics.
- Supports PowerUP program activities including recording attendance, scheduling classes and in-person programming logistics
- Creates and tracks purchase orders and invoices for program supplies
- Maintains press & photo files, marketing and promotional materials for archival purposes
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 2 years experience in non-profit outreach or marketing
- Event management experience
- Excellent verbal and written communications skill
- Excellent customer service and ability to engage speakers and partners
- Ability to work well with others and independently
- Excellent organizational skills
- Facility with all MS Office modules, Asana, Airtable, Canva
- Project Management experience a plus
- Travel to other branches and non-library locations required
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed
This position is a union position, represented by District Council 37. The salary for this position is $56,918.13.
